CASEY, MADELINE A.

Madeline A. Casey, a Pearl River resident for 26 years died July 10, 2008 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Madeline was born in the Bronx on October 1, 1957. She was raised in Stony Point and graduated North Rockland High School in 1975 and Pace University, Pleasantville, NY in 1979. She married William Casey in June 1982 at St. Mary's Church in Haverstraw, NY. Madeline worked as a sales professional with Paterson Papers for the past 20 years building wonderful relationships and long-lasting friendships. She enjoyed gardening and her role as steward of the beautification process on Kerry Court. Bringing smiles to all those who drove through the neighborhood was her special gift. She is most known as loving mother of Kaitlin, Brian and Christopher. She loved them all dearly and took special joy in watching them grow. Devoted daughter of Josephine and the late Philip Surico. Cherished sister of Tina Surico of Ramsey, NJ and Brother Philip as well as his wife Elizabeth Surico of Mahwah, NJ. Visiting Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 11:30 AM at the Church of the Presentation, Upper Saddle River, NJ. Burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Madeline's name to Smile Forever Foundation P.O. Box 306 Closter, NJ 07624 or your personal local charity or ministry. COHEN, ABRAHAM

Abraham Cohen of Lake Worth, FL and Yonkers, NY died peacefully in his sleep on July 10, 2008 at age 95. Abe was born to Isaac and Ida Cohen. He graduated from Yonkers High and NYU with a B.A. and M.A. in Journalism. He married Ruth Rose who predeceased him in 1989. He was a devoted father to Marjorie Cohen Kogelman of Yonkers and Julie Cohen of Manhattan and an adoring grandfather to Dr. Laura Kogelman and a huge fan of her husband, Dr. Jonathan Weinstock of Boston, MA. Abe taught English and Social Studies in Yonkers and ultimately served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Abe became known as "Mr. Yonkers" for his many contributions to educational, civic and recreational associations. A small park at Ludlow Station has been named Abe Cohen Plaza. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 13, at 10:00 AM at Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Yonkers. Friends and family are invited to speak. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

D'AMBROSIO, CAROLINE

Caroline D'Ambrosio, tragically, on July 11, 2008, at age 82. Born May 21, 1926 in Avolino, Italy to Rafaele and Letezia Berardino. A devoted homemaker, she is the beloved wife of Antonio D'Ambrosio. In addition, Caroline is survived by her cherished daughter, Josephine Dellamonica (Jon), dear granddaughter, Teresa Marie, and loving siblings, Antonio, Sabino, Pasquale, Carmine and Mary Berardino. Visitation Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd. Mamaroneck, (914) 698-5968. Funeral Mass Monday 10 AM St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

DERING, MARY R.

Mary R. Dering, 88, of Yonkers passed away on Friday July 11, 2008. She was born on Jan. 4, 1920 in Czechoslovakia to John & Dorothy Kolibar. Mary came to US in 1927 settling in Yonkers where she was raise and educated graduating from Commerce High School. She married her loving husband Charles Dering in 1943 at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Yonkers he predeceased her in 1966. Mary was a supervisor at the New York Hospital in White Plains for 20 years retiring in 1990. She loved gardening and cooking. She is survived by her four loving children Kenneth (Katherine) Dering, Charles Dering, James Dering, Beverly (Scott) Henriques, her cherished five grandchildren, Ken, Kurt, Cheryl, Joseph and Gregory and adored two great grandchildren, Alexander and Zachary. Also surviving is her beloved sister Margaret Muraik. The family will receive friends from 2-6 PM at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday July 14th at 11 AM at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Yonkers with Interment to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery. DIMASE, ROCCO A.

Rocco A. DiMase a lifelong resident of Yonkers died on July 11, 2008. Rocco served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and is a retired member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 11. Rocco worked as a carpenter at Yonkers Raceway until his retirement. Devoted husband of Joan Kressman DiMase. Loving father of Rocco (Eileen) DiMase. Dear grandfather of Rocco, Michael, Matthew, Andrew and Amanda. Great grandfather of Reece. Brother of Rose McDermott, Mary DelVecchio, Joseph "Pasquale" DeMasi and the late John DiMase. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass on Monday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entombment Woodlawn Mausoleum.

FLYNN, GERTRUDE "DORIS DOONAN"

Gertrude "Doris Doonan" Flynn, 90 years of age when she succumbed to a massive heart attack on July 10, 2008. Doris was born in Jersey City, NJ. She gravitated to Manhattan and the Bronx and eventually became a long term resident of Eastchester, NY with her husband Tom Doonan who predeceased her on December 22, 1981. Her children Tom Doonan of Bayside Queens, John Doonan of Ipswich, MA, Rosemary Martin of Eastchester, NY. Also Margaret "Peggy" Farrell who predeceased her on November 8, 2006. Doris' grandson Tommy Farrell also predeceased her on December 15, 1985. Doris also raised her two nieces, Candia Flasch of Deltona Beach, FL and Denise Fish of Glen Head, NY. when her sister Grace died in Florida. Doris was remarried to Mr. Bernard Flynn of New Rochelle, NY on Valentine's Day 1993 where she continued her life loving her 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Doris had a knack of making everyone happy with her great beauty and infectious smile. She believed in laughing through life and bringing everyone she met along with her. She will be missed by all who knew her which included a large family and numerous friends. She belonged to The Lake Isle Tap Dancing group in the past, the Catholic Widow and Widowers Group of Scarsdale, NY, The "Two Again" Group and also the Altar Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the St. Veronica's Guild of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Doris and her daughter Peggy will be pleased to know up in heaven that a family member will continue to fund her Long Standing Sponsorship of a Guatemalan child through "the Christian Foundation for children and aging". For their outstanding assistance and compassion will appreciate in lieu of flowers a donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Westchester, 95 South Broadway, White Plains, NY 10601. GRECO, MARIA CARDILLO

Maria Cardillo Greco 74, of Hawthorne, N.Y. and formerly of the Bronx, N.Y. died on July 11, 2008 at her residence. She was born on April 20, 1934 to the late Carmelo and Angela (nee Crupi) Cardillo in Piedimonte Eteneo, Sicily, Italy. Maria was a self employed seamstress in NYC. She married Salvatore Greco on September 7, 1957, and emigrated in 1958. Moved to Hawthorne in 1987 from the Bronx. She is survived by her devoted husband Salvatore Greco of Hawthorne, N.Y. her loving daughter Grace Singer and her husband Jay of Thornwood, N.Y. and two cherished grandchildren David and Emily Singer. Predeceased by one brother Mario Cardillo and one sister Angela Cardillo. Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Monday 10 AM. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. She was devoted to her family. She helped raise her two grandchildren who she loved to cook for and care for. She taught them how to cook, garden, sew, and most importantly, how to can tomato sauce. We will miss her dearly. Thanks to all those who helped care for her over the last six years of her illness.
