AMBROSE, MARGARET MARY

Margaret Mary (nee Knecht) Ambrose, longtime resident of Eastchester, NY died on March 14, 2009 a her residence. Beloved wife of Myles J. (Joe) Ambrose, loving mother of Ellen Del Colle and Margaret M. Ambrose. Devoted sister of Helen (Walter) McLaughlin, Catherine (David) Wheeler and the late Philip (Mary Ellen) Knecht. Survived and loved by numerous nephews and nieces. Born in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx to Helen (Murphy) and Philip H. Knecht; graduated from St. Barnabas High School and attended St. Thomas More College, Fordham University. Employed for many years by New York Telephone. Member of St. Veronica's Guild at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale Women's Club and Lake Isle Senior Center and a volunteer at White Plains Hospital. Visiting at Westchester Funeral Home, Eastchester, Tuesday March 17 from 2-4, 7-9PM. Funeral Mass, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale, Wed. March 18, 2009 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to Lake Isle Senior Nutrition, 660 White Plains Rd., Eastchester, NY 10709 or Jansen Hospice, 69 Main St., Tuckahoe, NY 10707.

O'Rourke, Estelle Marie

Estelle O’Rourke of Millwood passed on August 22, 2015, she was 78. She was born in Ossining to Angelo & Viola (Faiella) Polcari. Estelle was the owner Millwood Shell Station. She was pre-deceased by her husband Neil. Estelle is survived by her son Michael (Janet), daughter Michelle Haubold (Doug), grandchildren Max, Paul, T.C., Valerie & Sam, brother Michael Polcari and sister Donna Manzares. She will be reposing Friday 4-6pm at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street Ossining. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10am at St. Ann’s Church, interment at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Briarcliff SPCA appreciated.

EWING, PRISCILLA (Nee) HAYES

Priscilla was born in Peekskill on February 20, 1924 to Eugene & Ida Bell Hayes. She graduated from Peekskill HS in 1942 and continued her education at the NYS College for Teachers in Albany, graduating with honors from the School of Business. Her elective offices included President of Residence Council and the Student Board of Finance. She joined the staff of Ossining High School in 1946 and enjoyed 38 fulfilling years in the classroom. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Teachers College Columbia University while enrolled there. She was selected to introduce the IBM Selectric Typewriter as an education tool to the students. She was married to Harry C. Ewing of Croton in 1949 following his tour of enlistment with the 101st Air Borne Division in the European Theater in WWII. Harry was the Founder and President of Ewing Contract Carpeting Co. in Manhattan. Harry & Priscilla were long-time members of Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Harry was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert & Lilian Munson Ewing and sister, Roberta Ewing Clark. Priscilla was pre-deceased by her parents and siblings Gladys Hayes Ambrosini, Winifred Hayes Whitney, Agnes Hayes Gerard, Eugene J. Hayes Jr., Vincent Hayes & Bernard Hayes. Priscilla is survived by nieces & nephews Jud Hayes, Deborah Ambrosini Habes, Erin Habes, Nicholas Habes, Tara Habes Raferty, Judith Gerard Kraft, Judith Hayes Huggard, Kevin Kraft, Kelly Kraft Meyer, Hunter Meyer and dear friends Robert & Mildred Wong. Priscilla was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Her accomplishments: each day of her life; marriage to Harry Ewing; her “Army” of kids at Ossining High School. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday August 17th at St. Ann’s Church at 10AM, interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, smile at a stranger – hug a friend.

Jacqueline Conrad
Jacqueline Conrad, of Nanuet, NY, died Wednesday July 30, 2003 at the age of 81.
She was born on June 4, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Waldo Lucian Conrad and Leona May Cruikshank Conrad.
Jacqueline worked at Venture Industries & Jawonio Workshop for many years. She was a resident of the Camp Venture family and loved reading and writing, corresponding with friends and family and had a love for dogs.
She is survived by her Aunt, Edith Campbell and friend, Jean Lloyd.
Friends may call Monday Aug. 4, 2003 from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Joseph W. Sorce F.H. Inc. where services will be held at 1:30 pm.
Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill.

BYRNE, EILEEN

Eileen Byrne, age 88, of Brewster, NY, died on Saturday, March 14, 2009. Eileen was born on September 18, 1920, to the late Thomas and Catherine (Connolly) Hanley. Eileen is pre-deceased by her late husbands Richard Daly of Elmhurst, NY and later in life she met and married James Byrne of over twenty years. Eileen was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Seniors and a volunteer at Putnam Hospital. She had several hobbies, but her passions were playing golf and bridge, but most of all Eileen loved spending time with her family and friends. Eileen is survived by her two loving children, Donald Byrne of Key West FL, and Deidre (John) Stark of Key West, FL. Also, surviving are her two sisters Catherine Brethel of Milford, PA and Elizabeth Crowley of Mineola, NY. Her Sister-in-law Maureen Hanley .Eileen is pre-deceased by her brother Thomas Hanley and her sister Ellen Koneck. Four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Christine, Jessica and pre-deceased granddaughter Deanna. Also, survived are eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Rite will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11 am at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, NY. Family will receive friends at Beecher Funeral Home 1 Putnam Ave Brewster, NY 10509 (845)-279-3615 on Monday March 16, 2009 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Eileen will be greatly missed!

GALVIN, MAURICE B.

Maurice B. Galvin, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday March 13, 2009 at his residence. He was 82 years old. He was born on December 15, 1926 to Joseph and Mary Linahan Galvin in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. Mr. Galvin was a custodian for Sacred Heart Grade and High Schools for thirty years until his retirement in 2001. He was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Galvin served his country proudly as a Pharmacist's Mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific on the USS Refuge. He was a member of the local American Legion Post. On June 29, 1957, he married Mary Troy in Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Galvin died on June 3, 1982. Survivors include one son, Brendan Galvin and his wife Lynn of Bethel, Ct., one daughter, Mary Beth Floyd and her husband Curtis of Mechanicsville, Va. and one sister, Margaret Erdman of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kevin, Chris and Katie Galvin and Connor Floyd. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Galvin. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 7-9 PM. And Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday March 17th at 11 AM. HILTSLEY, DOROTHY H.

Dorothy H. Hiltsley a lifetime resident of Ossining passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009. Dorothy was born in Ossining on January 20, 1922 and was the daughter of John and Margaret (Brisbane) Hurley. She was 87. Dorothy was a graduate of Ossining High School and Packard Business School. She was a former employee of the Ossining High School and the Sing Sing Correctional Facility. She was also a former volunteer with the Phelps Auxiliary and a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. Dorothy is survived by her sons Richard (Lillian) Hiltsley, and Robert; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1984. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with the services Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the funeral home chapel. The interment will follow at Dale Cemetery.
