LIPMAN, SHIRLEY ERSTER

Shirley Erster Lipman, a long time resident of Rye New York passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 14, 2009. She was 86 years old. Shirley was born on September 23, 1922 to the late Lena and Louis Erster of Brooklyn New York and Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was a Teacher in the Rye public school system, where she taught kindergarten for over 35 years at Osborne and Milton Schools. She retired in 1996. Shirley was a past President of the Rye Teacher's Association and a chief negotiator for groundbreaking contracts for the teachers during the years in which she served. Shirley was humble about her contributions, and although she was teacher of the year in the minds of many she consistently refused the nomination. Shirley's contributions were many. She was the leading teacher representing the Rye district's Kindergarten teachers who introduced the present Kindergarten schedule. Shirley also served on the search committee hiring superintendent Dr. Barry Farnham. She was much respected by her colleagues, parents and students alike. She could not walk down a street in Rye without someone saying "Hello Mrs. Lipman, remember me, you were my Kindergarten Teacher" or "You had my child in Kindergarten". Shirley was honored by the Rye Teacher's Association and represented Milton School at the Blue Ribbon School celebration in Washington, DC where she met President Bill Clinton. Her retirement was short-lived and she went to work at Borders Books in White Plains where she was visited many former students, parents and their families. She was a local celebrity. Shirley supported the local merchants in Rye and was a supporter and advocate for the Rye Public library. There was a book several years ago called Everything I Needed to Know, I learned in Kindergarten. The students of Rye, New York who were fortunate enough to have Shirley Lipman as a teacher know this to be true. Shirley Lipman is survived by her two daughters, Jane Lipman of Los Angeles, California and Louise Lipman of New York City, as well as her niece and nephews and their spouses Elise Frank Sterman and George Sterman ; Marshall and Rosanna Frank ; Sidney and Alice Frank and her brother-in-law, Leo Frank. Services will be held at Community Synagogue in Rye New York Monday March 16th at 1:00 pm. The family will be sitting Shiva Monday after they return from the cemetery around 4:00 pm and on Tuesday and Wednesday 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. MANCHESTER, JOSEPHINE A

Josephine A. Manchester, age 88 of Peekskill, NY, a former resident of Hastings-on-Hudson for over forty years, passed away on March 14, 2009. Mrs. Manchester was a Dietician for the Yonkers Board of Education. She was born on July18, 1920 in Brooklyn to Richard and Elizabeth Alder Allen. She is survived by a daughter, Lesley Manchester of Peekskill, a son Allen Manchester of DeBary, FL and three grandchildren; Cheryl, Lee and Raymond. Also surviving is a sister, Blanche. Predeceased by, her husband, Raymond Manchester and a brother Richard Allen. Visitation is Tuesday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the JOSEPH F. NARDONE FUNERAL HOME, Peekskill, NY. ROSTAR, ANTOINETTE

Mrs. Antoinette Gagnon Rostar, 87, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC. A funeral mass will be conducted on Monday at 12 Noon at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yonkers, New York. In 1942, she married William Rostar and they made their home in Yonkers, New York. For a number of years, she performed private duty nursing and care giving in the communities of Yonkers, Bronxville, and Riverdale. She was a devout parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Rostar was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1982. She is survived by: son, James W. 'Jim" Rostar and wife, Fran, of Greenville; grandchildren, Andrew W. Rostar of Mammoth Lakes, CAand James T. Rostar and wife, Lynda, of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Rostar of Greenville. In her memory, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Peter's Catholic Church, Building Fund, 2700 E. 4th Street, Greenville, NC 27858.

ANTONELLO, ALICE "COOKIE"

Alice Antonello of New City, NY died on Wednesday February 25th 2009. Alice is survived by her husband Anthony and Children: Gina (Stevenson), Anthony, Louis, Lori and Gloria (Flynn) as well as her 11 grandchildren. She was born in NYC on April 3, 1938. Visitation is Sunday March 1, 2009 @ Higgins Funeral Home in New City from 4PM to 9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church in Nanuet on Monday @10AM. DEROSA, ELIZABETH "BETTY"

Elizabeth "Betty" F. DeRosa, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on February 26. She was 91. Mrs. DeRosa was born on April 5, 1917 in Hazelton, PA to the late Ralph and Grace Marotta. She is survived by her husband, John of New Rochelle; three sons, John Jr. and his wife Nancy of Purchase, Joseph of New Rochelle, and Robert of Novato, CA; four grandchildren, Kelly, Alex, Jamie, and Eric; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting Sunday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. Mass Monday 9:30AM at Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment at Ferncliff Cemetery.

LINDENBAUM, MILTON "LINDY"

Milton "Lindy” Lindenbaum, 90, of Woodbury, New Jersey, formerly of Yorktown, died peacefully Sunday March 15. He was the loving husband of Mildred (Finkelstein) Lindenbaum (deceased 2005) and father of Ilene(Harry) Alexandrowicz and Bruce(the late Cheryl) Lindenbaum, grandfather of Stacie Monagle, Jason Deschenes, Scott Lindenbaum, Brian Lindenbaum, and the great grandfather of Natalie Deschenes and Madelyn Monagle. He was the son of the late Pauline and Harry Lindenbaum of the Bronx, N.Y. "Lindy” was the co-founder of Frank and Lindy Plumbing and Heating in 1952 with his partner Frank Calcaterra(deceased 1998). He was a resident of Yorktown for over 40 years and was active in the Yorktown Kiwanis Club, Yorktown Jewish Center, Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Mechanical Contractors Association of Westchester, Bronx YMHA, lifetime member of the Peekskill Elks, and a former trustee of Local Union 21 Plumbers and Steamfitters Benefit Funds. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Lindy retired to Delray Beach, Florida in 1980, and later relocated to New Jersey. There will be a graveside funeral on Wednesday March 18 @ 11a.m. at Sharon Gardens, Valhalla, N.Y. (914 949 0347). The family will be sitting Shiva, Wednesday, March 18 at 7p.m. at the home of his son, Bruce, 16 Crosby Ct., Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. (914 739 7159). In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center Foundation, 1980 Crompond Rd., Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. 10567. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Maria Antonia DiMuro, of Yonkers, on February 26, 2009.
She was 74 years old.
Born to Gerado and Maria Artemisia Rendina in Muro Lucano, Italy.
Beloved wife of Donato who pre deceased her in 2004.
Loving mother of Anthony (Giuliana) DiMuro and Celeste (Giovanni) Russo.
Sister of Antonio Rendina, Concetta Gugliotta and Sara Corsaro.
Adored grandmother of four.
Mrs. DiMuro was a seamstress in the Bronx for many years, a wonderful homemaker and an active member of St. Ann's.
Arrangements entrusted to FLOWER FUNERAL HOME, 714 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers where visitation was held on Friday.
Mass 10:30 AM today at St. Ann's Church.
Entombment Ferncliff Mausoleum.
