GLEASON, DENIS J.

Denis J. Gleason, age 65, of Brewster, NY died peacefully in his home Monday, April 26, 2010. Mr. Gleason was born March 22, 1945 in Bronx, NY son of the late John and Katherine (Nolan) Gleason. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in Bronx, NY, then married Brigid McCaffrey on February 4, 1967 in Our Lady of Refuge Church in Bronx, NY. They moved from Astoria to Brewster thirty eight years ago and became members of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church. Mr. Gleason was a Technical Rep. for Xerox in Tarrytown for 27 years before retiring in 1994. He was an expert marksman and member of the NRA and a member of the Danbury Area Aquarium Society. Mr. Gleason was predeceased by his Wife, Brigid, on February 21, 1995. He is survived by his two daughters: Eileen Barrett of Brewster, NY and Patricia Vaccaro of Waxhaw, NC, two sisters; Peggy Biggs of Southbury, CT and Kathleen Corcoran of Plainview, NY, five grandchildren; Ciara and Brendan Barrett, Meghan, Emily and Lauren Vaccaro, his long time friend Patty Dibra and his pet companion Charlie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 29, 2010, 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment following at St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Wednesday from 3 to 8 PM.

HAZZARD, SUTTON JOY

Sutton Joy Hazzard, our precious little peanut made her way to Heaven after 27 days of life. Sutton Joy was born April 1, 2010 at Yale-New Haven Hospital where she spent her short time on earth in the New Born Special Care Unit. A fighter throughout, this little angel was the daughter of Richard Thomas, Jr. and Carol Ann (Eastwood) Hazzard. Born 6 weeks premature at just 3lbs 8ozs, her will to live was an example to us all. Despite her continued complications with breathing, Sutton could still be comforted by the love of her Mama and Daddy as they drew her near, but the peace, joy and comfort she brought to them was immeasurable. Her handprints will remain on their hearts forever. Besides her parents, Sutton is survived by her sisters, Greer Elizabeth and Sloane Victoria of Patterson, NY; her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Dorothy Eastwood of Brewster, NY; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Donna Hazzard of Patterson, NY; her great grandfather, Donald McLagan of Waycross, GA and many aunts, uncles and cousins, all of who love her so very much. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 30, 2010 10:00AM at St. John's The Evangelist Church, 39 East Main St., Pawling, NY. Interment will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson, NY. Family and friends may call at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY on Thursday from 3 to 7PM. Sutton's family wishes to acknowledge the love, care and compassion shown by the nurses, doctors and staff of the NBSCU at Yale. We will be forever grateful. HOFSTEDT, PETER D.

Peter Donald Hofstedt,74, longtime resident of Briarcliff Manor and loving Husband and Father of five, died on April 22, 2010, at his home after a long illness. A Tarrytown native and U.S. Naval Aviator, Peter married his high school sweetheart, Ann Elizabeth Marron, at Transfiguration Church, in 1958. Peter was born on December 21, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, to Carl and Genevieve Hofstedt, and grew up in Tarrytown, NY, where he attended Washington Irving High School, serving as school president and lettering in three sports. He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1954, lettering on the baseball team and serving as vice president of his graduating class. He graduated in 1958 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, Peter was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and attended flight school where he earned his aviator wings in 1959. Peter piloted a Martin P5M Marlin and was stationed in Bermuda (Squadron VP-45) where his role was to patrol our nation's coastline in search of Soviet submarines. He next became an instructor in the School of Pre-Flight at NAS Pensacola, Florida. In 1963, Peter was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lieutenant. After returning to Westchester with his family, Peter joined the New York Telephone Company/NYNEX in 1964. He retired after 30 years. Peter was also active in the Briarcliff community during his 45 years as a resident, serving as a Little League coach, league officer, vice president, and treasurer; a Boy Scout Webelo leader; a lector at St. Theresa's Church; and a volunteer at the Ossining Food Pantry. Peter was also a Briarcliff School Board Trustee for seven years, serving as president from 1980-81 and 1983-84. Through the years, Peter enjoyed watching his children perform on the athletic fields and stages of the Briarcliff schools. He was also an avid reader, sports fan, and fisherman always in search of a lunker. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Ann, as well as his five cherished children and 13 adored grandchildren: Chris and Christine Hofstedt of Larchmont, NY, and their children Meg, Peter, and Natalie; Doug and Denise Hofstedt of Severna Park, MD, and their children Clare, Michael, and Patrick; Beth Ronan of Briarcliff Manor, NY, and her children Bobby and Brian; Matt and Ariane Hofstedt of Annapolis, MD, and their children Anderson and Quin; and Jennifer and Dan Krehnbrink of Guilderland, NY, and their children Finn, Aidan, and Kaitlin. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie "Bunny" and Henry Crepeault of Tarrytown, NY. Visitation will be at the funeral home,Thursday, April 29th from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 30th at 11 AM at St. Theresa's Church in Briarcliff. A private passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010 in Danbury, CT after a long illness. Sig was born on June 9, 1954 in Reykjavik, Iceland. He is the son of Kristin Sigtryggsdottir and the late Jon Sigurdsson. He is survived by his wife Lina Thordardottir Jonsson, their children Kristin Jonsson of Fairport, NY, Thordur Jonsson of Reykjavik Iceland and Heida Jonsson of Manhattan, NY and their grandsons Kai Alexander Laskoski and Magnus Finn Thordarson. Sig emigrated with his family from Iceland to New Jersey before settling in Brewster in 1988. He was a self employed sales representative for Saga Global, a private label importer in Brewster. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY 10509. Calling hours will begin at 12 noon prior to the service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Cancer Research Foundation, Renal Cancer Research Fund. Donations can be sent to Dr. Janice Dutcher, 750 Kappock St., Bronx, NY 10463.

Salvatore Schepps, age 84, of Yonkers died Sunday, November 14, 2010. Mr. Schepps was born February 5, 1926 in Bronx, NY the son of the late William and Beatrice (Mostaciullo) Schepps. He served in the Army during World War II. He was employed as a Mechanical Engineer. He is survived by his beloved wife Lexie (Fields) Schepps, one daughter: Janette (James) Amato. Grandson, Thomas Amato; Grandson, Adam (Jackie) Amato. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9PM at Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc., 601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 at St. Ann's Church, 854 Midland Ave, Yonkers. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx.

KNAPP, KENNETH E.

Kenneth Knapp, Age 74, of Port Orange, FL passed away on April 25, 2010. He was born in Nyack, NY & graduated from Congers High School. Ken is survived by his wife of 50 yrs Nancy (Zabriskie) Knapp; 4 children, Tracy Costa, Susan Williams, Kerry Glover; 8 grandchildren; his sisters, Janet Collins & Sandy Knapp; his brothers, Jerry & Don Knapp. Ken was predeceased by his parents Marjorie & Walter Knapp, his sisters Ellen Dunnigan-Kennedy & Marjorie "Babe" Ihburg & his brother Walter "Wally" Knapp. The family requests donations in Ken's name to Halifax Health Hospice, 4140 S. Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL 32141 or a Hospice of your choosing.
