Edna Earle Key Baker
Edna Earle Key Baker, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was born March 4, 1914 in Hartsville, Tennessee to Edward Madden Key and Bessie Eugenia Walker. Her siblings include Jack Eugene Key (deceased 2007); Lewis Albert Key (deceased 1943); Lela Alice Key Bloomer (deceased 2000); Joe Wryland Key of Chattanooga, TN; Betty Louise Key Simmons of Hyde Park, NY; Robert Nathaniel Key (deceased 2004); Anne Davis Key Smith of Lebanon, TN; and Mildred Virginia Key Clark (deceased 1986). She is survived by her daughter, Virginia and her husband, George Berger of San Diego, CA; her son, Howard Baker and his wife, Marie of Marlboro, NY; grandson, Eugene Berger and his wife, Carrol of Joplin, MO; grandson, Justin Berger and his wife, Crystal of Oakland, CA; grandson, Craig Baker and his wife, Jordyn of Hopkins, SC; grandson, Adam Barker and his wife, Tracey of Highland, NY; granddaughter, Carolyn Baker of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandson, Matthew Berger of Joplin, MO and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Bessie Clark Baker in 1966. Mrs. Baker was born and raised in Hartsville, TN; after high school, she attended Cumberland University on an academic scholarship. After one year there, she began her more than 25-year teaching career at a one-teacher school in Puryear's Bend, Trousdale County, TN at a salary of $45 per month. She then taught for four tears at the Trousdale County Elementary School before moving to Marlboro, NY in 1940. In that same year, she married her husband of 27 years, Howard C. Baker, Sr. After starting a family of three chlidren, she began teaching at the Fostertown Elementary School in the Newburgh School District. At the same time, she began courses at the Teacher's College of New Paltz, where she completed a bachelor's degree with a teaching certification in the early 1960s. She taught second and fifth grade in the Fostertown school before retiring in 1974. Mrs. Baker had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro since 1941, serving as a deacon and elder there for many years. She was also very active in the Presbyterian Women's Association of the same church, serving as its secretary for many years. She was also a Sunday School teacher in the First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro for over 50 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her family ó particularly her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, a master at grammar and word games, a true Southern lady, and her kindness, generosity and warmth will be greatly missed by the many whose lives she touched. Calling hours will be held Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc., 1290 Rt. 9W, Marlboro. Funeral services will be Monday at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro, West Street and DuBois Street, Marlboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Marlboro and the American Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Carl J. DiDonato, Jr. and Lawrence M. Cavazza of the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc.

Rockwell Bowers
POUGHKEEPSIE - Rockwell D. Bowers, 84, of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully on April 11, 2008 at Lutheran Care Center after a long illness. He was born on March 5, 1924 in Hurleyville, NY, the son of Winfred and Florence Eronomous Bowers. He was married in Hudson, NY, on October 9, 1949 to Carolyn Loomis, who survives at home. Mr. Bowers served in the US Navy in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II. He was employed with New York Telephone for 38 years, retiring as an engineer in 1984. He was active in local Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 50 in the 1960s. He was a coach in several local youth sports organizations. In 1962, he was an original founding officer of the Conservative Club of Dutchess County. He was a member of the Hudson Masonic F&AM; Lodge and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He is survived by sons and daughters-in law, James K. and Helen B. Bowers of Wappingers Falls; Richard A. and Donna R. Bowers, of Davenport, FL; Gary D. and Jacolyn H. Bowers, of Alpharetta, GA; David S. and Lisa B. Bowers, of Roanoke, VA; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, from 4-7 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, NY. Funeral Services will be at Allen Funeral Home, on Monday, April 14 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Rockwell's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of the Hudson Valley, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

William J. Crosson
TOWN OF WAPPINGERS FALLS - William J. Crosson, 65, of Town of Wappingers Falls, died April 10, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Previously of Yonkers, he had been a local resident since 1972. Mr. Crosson was the Director of Safety-Security & Transportation at Wappingers Central School District and had also worked for the Cornwall Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff's Department and East Fishkill Police Department. He was a member of the National Association of Chiefs of Police, of NY Police Chief's Benevolent Association, and former member of Knights of Columbus. As a youth, he was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts. Born July 17, 1942 in Yonkers, Ny, he was the son of William J. and Roslyn C. Cavanaugh Crosson. He attended Manhattan College in New York City and Sacred Heart Catholic High School, where he remained active in Sacred Heart reunions. Survivors include three daughters, Cathleen Crespo and fiance, John Bailey, Lake Katrine, Christine Loveday and husband, Wesley, Poughkeepsie, and Suzanne Ziolkowski and husband, Mark, Port Ewen, NY; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Barker and husband, Gerald, Hopewell Junction and Marianne Kelleher and husband, Brian, New City, NY; sister-in-law, Marie Crosson, Bowie, MD and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Crosson. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

John J. Marcus, Sr
CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE - John J. Marcus, Sr., 96, of City of Poughkeepsie, died April 9, 2008 at Eden Park Nursing Home. He had been a machinist for 21 years at IBM, Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1973. A lifetime local resident, he had been a member of Moose Club #904, Royal Arcanum Club, Knights of Columbus #7551-St. Martins. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Church. John was an avid bowler. Born May 21, 1911 in Roda, VA, he was the son of John and Mary Marcus. On June 9, 1935 in Mt. Carmel Church, he was married to Carmela "Molly" Panessa. She predeceased him on Jan. 12, 1990. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John and Judy Marcus, Jr., Poughkeepsie, daughter, Theresa Canora, Poughkeepsie, daughter, Marie Marcus, Carlsbad, CA, brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Shirley Panessa, Poughkeepsie, grandchildren, Deborah Dvorak, Jeff Marcus, Scott Marcus, Shawn Magurno and Brent Magurno, step-grandchildren, James, II and David Canora, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, He was predeceased by brother, George Marcus and sisters, Mary Rizzo, Helen Pizzarelli, Florence Marcus, Anna Phillips and Betty Pearson. Calling hours will be Monday, April 14, 2008 from 4-8pm at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Knights of Columbus will conduct a service at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tues., April 15, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Amelia Murphy
HIGHLAND, NY - Amelia "Amy" Murphy, 83, a lifelong resident of Highland, died Thursday April 10, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Murphy was born October 28, 1924 in Highland. She was the daughter of Frank & Josephine LaRegina Mandy. Mrs. Murphy was a Legal Secretary for many years up until her retirement. She was a member of the Mid Hudson Senior Citizens in Highland, the Catholic Daughters of America, and was a member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland. Mrs. Murphy was an avid bowler, she was an outstanding cook & made the best meatballs. On October 19, 1963 at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland she married Thomas Murphy. Mr. Murphy survives at home in Highland. Other survivors include a daughter: Mary Jo Cipollini of Highland a brother; John Mandy of New Paltz, a sister: Louise Mandy of Hyde Park ; two grandchildren Ally & Tommy, several nieces, nephews, cousins and In Laws. She was predeceased by two sisters: Mary Valentino, Eleanor Whiteley, and a brother: Michael Mandy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and she truly adored her grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Amelia's name. Calling hours are Sunday April 13, 2008 from 3-8 Pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main St., Highland, N.Y. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday April 14, 2008 9:30 Am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery Poughkeepsie.

Helga Murphy
MILLERTON - Helga Murphy, 74, of Millerton, NY died at Sharon Hospital, Sharon, CT suddenly on April, 10, 2008. She was born in Berlin, Germany on August 8, 1933, daughter of Charlotte and Pius Strobl and was the wife of Robert Murphy who lives at home in Millerton. The couple would have soon celebrated their 56th anniversary. Surviving are two sons; Edward Murphy and his wife, Deborah of Millerton, and Jason Murphy of Millbrook, NY. Helga also leaves two grandchildren, Christopher and Erin, both of Millerton. Friends may call at the Valentine Funeral Home, Park Ave., Millerton on Saturday, April 12 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 PM at the Millerton Presbyterian Church on Main Street with Rev. Nancy Thornton McKenzie officiating. All other services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Norman Neener
POUGHKEEPSIE - Norman Neener, 93, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died April 10, 2008. He was a Manager for IBM Poughkeepsie and also worked at IBM in Rochester, New York, retiring in 1975. Previously of Rochester, NY, he had been a local resident since 1945. Mr. Neener had been Past Town of Poughkeepsie Republican Committee Person of the 5th Ward; Life Member of Pirate Canoe Club, Founder and Life Member of 110 Rod and Gun Club Morse Mills NY, President of the Salmon River Rod and Gun Club Fort Covington NY, and F&AM; Lodge 266 where he was a Member for over 50 years. He was also a past Scout Master of Troop 23 Poughkeepsie, NY. He was a member of The Reformed Church for over 50 years. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all. In his early years he played Football, Basketball and Baseball. He was a devoted Fisherman and loved the outdoors. Born in Sodus, NY on April 25, 1914, he was the son of George and Elizabeth Dayton Neener. He was married on June 3, 1939 in Rochester, NY to Lucille V. Schleyer. Survivors include his wife at home; Daughter and Son In-law; Joyce and John Hurst of North Wales, PA; Son and Daughter In-law, James and Sharon Neener of Lyons, Colorado; Daughter, Vicky Bradley of Poughkeepsie, New York; Son, Norm C. Neener of Lyons Colorado; Grandchildren, J. Michael Neener, John Hurst and Amy Neener. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Fred Neener and a sister, Alice Alexander. Calling hours will be held Sunday April 13, 2008 from 2pm to 6pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral service will take place Monday April 14, 2008, 11am at The Reformed Church, 70 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorial donations to:ASPCA, Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY 12538 or to a charity of your choice.
