BURNS, EUGENE R. JR.

Eugene R. Burns, Jr., loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in Goshen, New York. He was 81 and a recent resident of Glen Arden in Goshen. The son of the late Eugene Burns and Agnes Burns (nee McMurray), he was born on June 26, 1927 on Staten Island, New York. A graduate of Curtis High School, he was a baseball and basketball standout who went on to play basketball at St. John's University where he studied business. He was inducted into the Staten Island Baseball "Oldtimers” Club. Gene served in the United States Navy during WWII. Gene was a sales executive for the U.S. Borax Corporation from which he retired in 1986. Upon retirement Gene began a second career as the first Recycling Coordinator for Rockland County. Gene was always active in his community, wherever it was. He was a Democratic Committeeman on Staten Island and Rockland County. A member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society, Gene coached CYO basketball for many years. Known for his wit, Gene, along with his wife, Catherine, performed in the St. John Neumann Players, a theatrical group. All who knew him were touched by his good humor and kind-hearted ways. A native of Staten Island, Gene was a long-time resident of New City and parishioner at St. Augustine's. Many happy summers were also spent with his family and friends at the family's home in Lake Wallkill, New Jersey In later years Gene and Catherine resided in Lords Valley, Pennsylvania and spent many enjoyable winters in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Catherine (nee Burke), of 51 years, and sister, Agnes. Survivors include daughter, Patricia Mitchell and her husband, Kenneth, of Chester, New York; Ellen Burns of Valley Cottage, New York; Gene Burns and his wife, Maureen, of Milford, Pennsylvania; Tom Burns and his wife, Kris, of Nyack, New York; seven grandchildren: Megan, Hannah-Rose, Zachary, Sean, Mary Kate, Sadie Mae and Eamon. Visitation will be Thursday, December 18th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Ferguson's Funeral Home on North Street in Washingtonville, New York. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Route 208 in Washingtonville, New York, and follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. CHIARAPPA, MARY

Mary Chiarappa (nee Crolly) of Yonkers died on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at age 93. Born on June 4, 1915 to William and Clara (Gruneao) in Bronx, NY and was raised in Rye and graduated from Resurrection High School in Rye. Mrs. Chiarappa was employed by Ferncliff Manor Home for Children for over 30 years retiring in 1976. Mary is survived by her four children Amos of Florida, Mary Elizabeth Fraioli of Mamaroneck, Claire Frischmann of New Mexico and Patricia (Karol) Thiel of Yonkers. Also surviving are her 12 Grandchildren Angela, Amos, Niki, Kim, (Arty), David (Donna), William (Butchie), David (Marylin), Kelli (Rui), Lauren, Michael (Tonia), Billy (Jacquie) and Bobby and her 11 Great-Grandchildren Jocylin, Justin, Nicky, Elizabeth, Chucky, Joseph, Jacob, Heaven, Matthew, Zackary, Jordan and nephew Anthony Quirk (Sharon) and three great-nieces Laura, Frances and Barbara. She was predeceased by her son William A. Chiarappa who died in 1978 and her brother Anthony Crolly (WWII) and two sisters Rita Quirk and Theresa Ponter. Remembered for her special love and devotion she had for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the children she cared for at Ferncliff Manor. D'EMILIO, GERARD

Gerard D'Emilio, 78, died on Sunday December 14, 2008. Mr. D'Emilio was born and raised in Lyndhurst, lived in Long Island, NY for 42 years, and has been a resident of Nanuet, NY for six years. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957. He was a Partner of D'Emilio & Schmier Law Firm of Deer Park, NY from 1962 to 1973. In 1973, He was appointed to the District Court of Suffolk County. He was elected for the New York State Supreme Court of Suffolk County in 1993 until he retired in 2000. He was a member and past president of The Lion's Club. Gerard was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Theresa H. (nee Miller) D'Emilio in 2005. He is survived by his two loving children, Joann D'Emilio Lessem of Ardsley, NY and Matthew D'Emilio of Pittsburg, PA and by his four dear grandchildren, G. Michael and Nia D'Emilio and Sam and Alec Lessem. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral form Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Friday December 19, 2008 at 9:30 AM then to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lyndhurst where at 10:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. George J. DeMarco, a resident of Jefferson Village in Yorktown, NY, passed away on December 15, 2008 from complications of advanced Alzheimers. He was born in Mount Vernon on May 14, 1926 to George and Rose DeMarco. He was a decorated veteran of the Marine Corps in WWII and received the Purple Heart. George was retired from the U.S. Post Office and worked in both Mount Vernon and Scarsdale He was also the owner of two grocery stores, the first in New Rochelle and the second in Mount Vernon. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie DeMarco of 60 years and was the beloved father of Rosemarie Bahr, Nancy Mulkerin, George and Gerard DeMarco. He is survived by nine loving grandchildren, Joe, Benjamin, Jeffrey, Rachel, David, Stephen, Rebecca, Christopher, and Julie as well as his one sister, Elaine Krass of New Rochelle. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Cargain Funeral Home in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 18 at 11:15 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. GOLDENBERG, EVELYN

Evelyn Goldenberg, age 79 of Orangeburg, NY passed away on December 16, 2008. She was the loving wife of the late Saul, a mother, and grandmother. Her survivors include her daughter Helene (Mitchell) Levinson, son Howard (fiancee, Christine Puglia), brother Louis (Mina) Schiffman and sister Sarah (Martin) Kleinman. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, David and Janine Levinson, Lauren Goldenberg, and Anthony and Michael Puglia and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by brothers Benjamin and Irving Schiffman. Evelyn worked as a Librarian at the Orangeburg Library and later as a secretary in the South Orangetown Schools. She was a lifetime member of Haddasah, member of the Sisterhood of Orangetown Jewish Center, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral Services will be held Thursday December 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM at HELLMAN MEMORIAL CHAPELS, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY. Interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. MARRA, GENARD C.

Genard C. Marra of Tuckahoe and Cape Cod, MA died on December 15, 2008. Born March 26, 1938 to (Sgt) G. Charles Marra and Irene Viggiano (Marra) Lopilato. An artist and thespian, Genard graduated Tuckahoe High School, Orange County Community College and Syracuse University majoring in art and design. He was in the retail business but his love for the theater inspired him to do set designs and costuming at the Bucks County Community Playhouse as well as doing bits parts in off broadway productions. Loving husband of the late Rose Marie Rezanka in1985. Dear brother of Ron (Adrianna) Marra and Charlene (Marra) Pollick. Uncle of Ron, Jr. (Julie), Adam (Christy) Pollick, Andrew (Amy) Pollick. MONTALBANO, NICHOLAS

Nicholas Montalbano, of W. Harrison, NY died on December 15, 2008. Born in White Plains to the late Anna Ribaudo and Vincenzo Montalbano. Nicholas graduated from White Plains HS and served in the Army Air Corp Band during WWII. He was owner of Monty Decorators for 50 years and a member of the Lake Isle Seniors. In 1944 he married the late Rose Meduri. He is survived by his daughter Ann Farsetta of Orangeburg, NY, a sister Tina Binder and companion Lucille Angelini.
