Glenn G. Glotfelty, 84, of Connellsville died Friday April 2, 2004. He was born March 1, 1920 at Ohiopyle a son of the late Charles H. and Jennie Linderman Glotfelty. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Class of 1938. He was retired from the B&O and later CSX Railroad where he was employed for 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during W.W. II with the 60th Field Artillery Battalion. He served in many battles including, Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 8 Bronze Service Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #21 of Connellsville, a charter and lifetime member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and he was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Connellsville where he was a former deacon. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta Colborn Glotfelty; three daughters, Patty Dull and her husband Marlyn of Mill Run, Susan Rudnick and her husband Frank of Mount Pleasant and Nancy Glotfelty and her fiancée Bernard Gioia of Chalk Hill and one sister, Mary Margaret Rohm of Riverside, Calif. Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. Saturday and 12-4,7-9 P.M. Sunday in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville where services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Larry Hellein officiating. Interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery, Mill Run.. Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion Honor Guard.

Goldie Rosalie Bowman of Star Route Donegal passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2003 in the Greensburg Care Center, She was born November 30, 1910 in Donegal, a daughter of the late George W. and Annie Kalp Emrick. Mrs. Bowman was educated in the Donegal Schools and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1924. She worked at McCrory's Variety Store in Mount Pleasant for 18 years and was retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in 1978 after 10 years of service. She was an Honorary Retired Member of the Teamsters Union. She was also a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Acme. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Bowman on July 16, 1985; two brothers, John Clair Emrick and Obal Samuel Emrick and a sister, Virgie Emrick. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Shirley Good, Glenn Platt, Charles Bowman, Kathy McNeil and Sandra Gorsop. Friends will be received from 5-9 P.M. Tuesday in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., Route 711, Melcroft. Additional viewing will take place in the Calvary United Methodist Church, Acme on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., the hour of funeral services in the church with Rev. Grace E. Livingston, 78 of Dawson, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 in Shadyside Hospital,Pittsburgh.
She was born March 26,1925 in Broadford, a daughter of the late Charles Owskey and Sarah Wingrove Owskey Davis.
Grace was a longtime resident of Dawson. She was a member of the Philip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dawson and was a member of it's Sarah B. Cochran Sunday School Class.She was a charter member of the Dawson Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Aux.She was a member of AARP,the Connellsville Area Senior Tigers,and the Melodiaires. Grace was a loving mother,grandmother,great grandmother, and sister to her family. She loved to play cards at the Senior Citizens Center,reading,listening to music, and watching television.
She is survived by 2 daughters Janet R. Puskar and her husband George of Connellsville,Donna J. Strickler of Uniontown, a son Robert A. Livingston of Pittsburgh,9 grandchildren Deborah Kadar and her husband Louis of Clairton,John D. Puskar and his wife Denise of Connellsville,Michael Puskar,of Irwin and his girlfriend Shannon Moyer of Harrison City,Barbara Livingston of Charlotte NC., Elizabeth and Carol Ann Livingston both of NC.,Patricia Walsh and her husband Shawn of Monroeville,Thomas Strickler and his wife Rachel of IL. and Raechel Strickler of Uniontown, 2 sisters Sarah Dickens of Blacksburg VA., and June Fitzgerald of Crozet VA.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a son Charles H. Livingston, 2 brothers Robert and Thomas Owskey, and a sister Jannet Owskey.

Harry J. Echard,87, of Alverton died Sunday March 23, 2003 in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. He was born January 16, 1916 in Hawkeye ( East Huntingdon Twp.) a son of the late George S. and Augusta Korn Echard. Mr. Echard was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where he worked as a custodian at the Scottdale Armory. He was also previously employed by Scottdale Wood Products and he worked as a coal miner for Koppers Coal Co. and the Henderson Coal Co. He was a member of the Center Bethel Church of God in Alverton where he was a former deacon, trustee and elder of the church and he was honored by the church with the distinction of Life Elder. He was a member of the Royal Guard Sunday School Class and served the church as the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the CGWB and the Alverton Civic Association. He enjoyed his time with his family as well as hunting and gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and is survived by his wife Clarissa M. Ulery Echard, with whom he was married for 63 years on March 17, 2003; three children Maralee Dugger and her husband Pastor Kenneth of Kennerdell, Pa. and their children, Brenda, Kerry and her husband Craig and Brad and his wife Lori; Delbert Echard of Stahlstown and his children Kevin and his wife Lisa, Dana, and Derek and his wife Crystal; Sherry Sauter and her husband David of Scottdale and their children, Alyssa, Nathanael and Timothy; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Emery W. Echard of New Stanton; one sister, Dorothy Anthony and her husband Leroy of Latrobe. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by and infant son, Daryl Emery Echard on April 27, 1951; two brothers, Arthur and Hugh Echard and five sisters, Martha Bair, Myrtle Nagy, Esther Johnson and Zettie and Ida Echard. Harry J. Underwood,70, of Scottdale R.D. #1 ( East Huntingdon Twp.) died Saturday March 22, 2003 at his home. He was born May 7, 1932 at Hecla a son of the late James and Ortha Bungard Underwood, who died on April 14, 1989 and January 3, 1995 respectively. Harry was formerly employed by the former Bryce Brothers Glass Co and later by Lenox Crystal. He was retired from SuperValu at New Stanton where he was employed for 14 years. He attended the former Hurst High School and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren where he served as Senior Usher for many years and he served as a church trustee and member of the Finance Board. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Hardik, who died on March 22, 1995; a brother-in-law, Zack Poorbaugh and a nephew, Mark Poorbaugh. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Newell Underwoood, with whom he was married for 46 year, marrying her on October 26, 1956; three children, Diane Peters of Scottdale R.D. #1, James Underwood and his wife Barbara of Scottdale and Rick Underwood and his wife Laurie of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren, Justin Garsteck and his fiancée Greta Tommarello, Jeremy Garsteck, Brandy Underwood, Ashley Underwood, J.D. Underwood, Nicholas S. Underwood, Steven Sellers and his wife Jennifer, Matt Underwood and Nicholas J. Underwood; one great granddaughter, Olivia Sellers; three sisters, Edna Mae Poorbaugh of Wooddale, Alice Booher and her husband Edwin and Dorothy Booher and her husband Chris, all of Mount Pleasant R.D. #4; one brother, Homer Underwood and his wife Mary of Bridgeport; a brother-in-law George Hardik and his friend Caroline Peters of Scottdale, numerous nieces and nephews and his pet and companion, his dog Lucky. Friends will be received from 2-4,6-9 P.M. Monday and Tuesday in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant. Additional viewing will take place in the Mt. Helen M. Bundorf, 80 of Acme, died Monday, March 17, 2003 in Frick Hospital, Mt.Pleasant.
She was born Jan. 7,1923 in Bear Rocks, a daughter of the late Marsh D. and Grace Richter Knopsnyder.
Helen was a longtime resident of the Acme area. She was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1941. Helen was a loving, homemaker,wife,sister and aunt to her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Scott Bundorf with whom she would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on Sept. 10,2003, a brother Kenneth Knopsnyder of Indiana PA., and a sister Garnet Kikta and her husband Vincent of Berlin MD., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her 1st husband Louis S. White.
Family and friends will be received in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc.,route 711 Melcroft, Wed. from 7-9 PM and Thur. from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. She was born April 19, 1922 in Rowley, Iowa a daughter of the late Alfred H. and Martha Hagan Streittmatter. Mrs. Ulery was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Connellsville. She was a veteran of W.W. II serving in Women's Army Corps( WAC'S) and she was a member of the Bullskin Twp. Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred H. Ulery in 2003; two sons, Darwin E. "Bucky" Ulery in 2002 and William Ulery, who died in infancy; five brothers, LaVerne,Lyle,Dale,Cecil and Harold Streittmatter and one sister, Erva Truhett. She is survived by one son, Dennis W. J.P. "Hix" Hixson, 88 of Connellsville(Wooddale), died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at his home while surrounded and comforted by his loving family.
He was born March 7, 1915, in Bullskin Twp., a son of the late Preston and Nannie Elizabeth Clark Hixson.
J.P. was a life long resident of Bullskin Twp. He started worked as a coal miner for the U.S. Steel Co and later went to work in the steel mills. He worked as a hearth operator in various U.S Steel mills throughout western Pennsylvania and retired in 1970. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He was a member of the Bullskin Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. and the South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club. J.P. was a member of the Wooddale Bible Brethren Church.
J.P. is survived by his loving wife Christine Chambers Hixson with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Nov. 6, 2002, 2 sons John W. Hixson and his wife Debbie of Marienville PA. and William Hixson of Prittstown, 2 daughters Nancy Tucholski and her husband Casey of Wooddale and Joan Greaser and her husband Joe of Kingwood WV., 2 former daughters-in-law Betty Griffith of Mt.Pleasant and Nancy Hixson of South Connellsville, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild,4 brothers James Hixson of Wooddale,Delbert "Sye"Hixson of White,Lindy "Buck" Hixson and his wife Thelma of Connellsville, and Clifford Hixson and his wife Joann of Ruffsdale, 3 sisters-in-law Ella Jean and Daisy Hixson of Connellsville and Betty Hixson of Wooddale and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a grandson Brian Hixson and 3 brothers Elmer"Pete" Hixson,Donald L. Hixson and Dempsey E. "Ike"Hixson.

J.R. Bosley, 83, of Connellsville died Thursday January 15, 2004 at his home. He was born March 28, 1920 in Bullskin Twp. a son of the late Samuel Clark and Elizabeth Diehl Bosley. Mr. Bosley was retired from Anchor Hocking Cap Plant where he was employed for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during W.W. II. He was also a member of the Slovak Club, Connellsville. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Hay Bosley; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Bosley of Newtown, Pa. and Ruth Morgan of West Newton and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of this immediate family. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, John and Clyde Bosley and four sisters, Laura Siesky,Izella Hann, Anna Mae Foster and Ruth Ella Goodwin. James F. DeOre, 88 of Pittsburgh, formerly of Connellsville, died Sat. March 27, 2004 in the UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Jan. 29,1916 in Dunbar a son of the late James O. and Theresa Cuneo DeOre.
James was a graduate of the former Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville with the class of 1933. He also attended Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from FOSECO Inc. in Mt.Braddock where he worked as Traffic Manager. He was also a former employee of the former Overholt Distillery in Broadford. James was a Veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sergeant in 331st Engineer Construction Battalion. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville and sang in the church choir and was a member of it's men's Holy Name Society. James was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Connellsville.
James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Rita Hart DeOre whom he married Dec. 28,1940, his daughters Laura Zambruno of Greensburg, Rebecca Gruber and her husband Don of Pittsburgh, and Jennifer Gordon and her husband John of Palatine IL., his daughter-in-law June DeOre of New Jersey, his grandchildren Shawn Zambruno and his wife Kim of Mt.Pleasant, Anissa Zambruno of Latrobe, Laura and Lexie Gruber of Pittsburgh, David and Danielle Gordon of Palatine IL., Jeanine Baechtold and her husband Jeff of Columbus NJ., James W. DeOre of Chicago, and Jeffrey H. DeOre of Indiana PA., his brother Raymond DeOre and his wife Doris of Burlington Ontario Canada, his sister Mary Louise Branagan and her husband James of Jupiter FL., and his brother-in-law Harry Campbell of Nedham MA.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son James H. DeOre in 1998, a brother Larry DeOre, and 3 sisters Loretta Albine, Marcella Campbell, and Anita DeOre.

James Melvin Bosley, 82, of Connellsville died Thursday January 22, 2004 in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. He was born December 28, 1921 in Connellsville the son of the late William J. Bryan Bosley and the late Katherine Ridgeway Dean. He attended Connellsville High School and Connellsville Business College. Mr. Bosley served as a staff sergeant for the Army Air Force in W.W. II and later worked for and retired from General Motors Corporation. He was a member of the Christian Church of Connellsville. He is survived by his daughter, Linda DeBerry and her husband Carl of Connellsville; three grandchildren, Brent Bowman and his wife Lisa, Brandie Bowman and Joey DeBerry and two great grandchildren Tyler and Valerie Bowman. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Violet Franks Bosley; two brothers, Earl and Ralph Bosley ; a step brother Richard Dean and a step sister, Dora Dean. Jean S. Morse, 85 of Connellsville, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont,PA.
She was born Nov. 30,1917 in Somerfield,PA. a daughter of the late Edward Bruce and Edna Mary Hall Sellers.
Jean was a graduate of the former Confluence High School with the class of 1936. She was a very active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, in Connellsville and held various church offices throughout her life. Jean was also a longtime active volunteer for the Connellsville Community Ministries.
Jean is survived by her loving family,her son Rev. Dr. David L. Morse, Pastor of the Monroeville U.M. Church, and his wife Penny, of Monroeville, her granddaughters Wendy Frase and her husband William of Monroeville and Jill O'Rourke and her husband Paul of Penn Hills, her great grandchildren Eilish Margaret and Finn David O'Rourke both of Penn Hills, her sister Mary Frances Whetsell of Addison,and her niece and great niece Juliann and Mirabella Mitchell of Cherry Hill NJ.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald R.Morse on July 3,1987 and an infant brother Robert Bruce Sellers.
Family and friends will be received in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St. Connellsville on Wed. from 7-9 PM and Thur. from 2-9 PM. Additional viewing will be held Fri. from 10:00 - 10:30 AM,the time of a funeral service, in the Otterbein U.M. Church,Connellsville, with Rev. Elmer Reamer and Rev. Terry Guiste co-officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park,Pennsville. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Otterbein U.M. Church,201 Lincoln Ave.,Connellsville Pa. 15425 or the Connellsville Community Ministries,201 E. Fairview Ave.,Connellsville PA. 15425, in memory of Jean S. Morse.

Jeremy Joseph Scifo, 16 of Connellsville, (Bullskin Twp.) died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born April 11,1987 in Greensburg a son of Joseph Michael Scifo of New Derry and Regina Anne Bodnar Colflesh of Connellsville. Jeremy was a life long resident of Connellsville. He was an 11th grade student at the Connellsville Area Senior High School where he was enrolled at the North Fayette Vo-Tech School where he studied automotive mechanics. He also had a co-op job at Penn Dot in Uniontown as a mechanic and worked part time at Wendy's Restaurant in Connellsville. Jeremy was also a former Boy Scout with Troop #170 in Tarrs. In addition to his mother and father Jeremy is survived by his step father William H. Colflesh of Connellsville, his step mother Anita Scifo of New Derry, a brother Joseph Scifo of New Derry, 4 sisters, including his twin sisters Ashley and Tara Moyer of Connellsville and Maria and Christen Scifo of New Derry, 3 step brothers Ben Colflesh of Scottdale, Cody and Tyler Colflesh of Connellsville, and 2 step sisters Jolene Colflesh of Scottdale and Alyssa Landa of New Derry, his maternal grandmother Valerie Thomas of Greensburg, his maternal grandfather Regis P. Bodnar and his wife Grace of Greensburg, his paternal grandmother Joan Scifo of Greensburg, his paternal step grandmother Carol Grimm of Connellsville, and his maternal great grandmother Irene Bodnar of Marguerite, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family and friends will be received in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc. 111 E. Green St. Connellsville Sunday from 1 - 2 PM, the hour of a Memorial Service, in the funeral home, with Rev. John Butler officiating. Interment will be private.

Jerry T. Sowers, 61, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday June 24, 2003 in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. He was born January 9, 1942 in Latrobe a son of the late David Henry and Anna Belle Casterwiler Sowers. He was a graduate of Latrobe Area High School. Jerry was formerly employed at Robertshaw Controls of New Stanton where he worked for 33 years and he was currently employed by Milling Specialists of Greensburg. He was a former member of the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department and he was a social member of the Mount Pleasant Fireman's Club. Jerry was an avid golfer and was a member of the Norvelt Golf Club. He was also a member of the Paradise United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Farrell Sowers; one son, J.T. Sowers; one sister, Marsha Walter and her husband Jim of Latrobe and his two brothers-in-law, Tom Farrell and his wife Karen Sue and George Farrell and his wife Pat and his nieces and nephews, Kim Gidaro, Karen Ciarkowski, Paul Robinson, Danielle Huhn and Tommy and Mark Farrell. Friends will be received from 2-9 P.M. Friday in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant where services will be held Saturday at 11:00 A. M. with Rev. Terry Guiste officiating. Private interment will be in the Unity Cemetery.

JOHN I. NURMINEN, 63, of (Bear Rocks), Acme, died Sunday, March 14, 2004 in his home. John was born March 29, 1940 in Brownsville a son of Aake Hellsten Nurminen of Acme and the late John T. Nurminen. John was a metallurgical engineer and president of Laser Surface Technologies, a consulting firm. He was also president and founder of Stardyne, Inc. of Johnstown. Previously, he was Senior Research Associate at Penn State University, State College in the Applied Research Lab. John also had a long tenure with Westinghouse Corp. for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God, where as a teenager he was a member of the church choir. John received his undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University and earned his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. John enjoyed fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. John is survived by his loving family, his wife, Sarah "Sally" Richards Nurminen; a son, John A. Nurminen and wife Bobbi of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Kristin Olexa and husband Richard of Milwaukee, WI; and a grandson, Cameron Nurminen. The family will receive friends in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant on Thursday from 5 to 7pm the hour of a memorial service with Pastor David Stickley officiating. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorials to the ALS Association Landmark Bldg. Suite 550 110 W. Station Square, Pgh. PA 15219-1122 in memory of John I. Nurminen
