Mary Mungo Funderburk

JEFFERSON – Mrs. Mary Mungo Funderburk, age 81, died Sunday, June 19, 2016 after a sudden illness.

She was born November 7, 1934, in Pageland, SC, a daughter of the late Perry F. and Lois Funderburk Mungo. Mary was a graduate of Pageland High School and Limestone College. She was a retired Vice-President with Bank of America and had spent more than 40 years in the banking industry. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and housekeeping. In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Tony Ned Funderburk.

Mary is survived by her 2 sons, Steve Jackson and wife Kathy of Pageland, SC and Tony N. Funderburk and wife Cammie of Charlotte, NC; 3 grandchildren, Conner, Julia, and Barrett Funderburk; one brother, Bo (Frances) Mungo of Pageland, SC; and 3 sisters, Theda M. Lynn of Pageland, SC, Judy (Joel) Mills of Mt. Croghan, SC, and Elaine (Danny) Hendrix of Pageland, SC.

Funeral Service was at 11:00 Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Pageland, with Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family received family and friends 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Funderburk home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Vera Parker Hunt

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Vera Parker Hunt, age 91, died Thursday, June 23, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 25, 2016, prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hunt was born October 21, 1924, in Cheraw, SC, a daughter of the late James and Frances Pegues Parker. She was a graduate of Zoar High School and was a retired employee of INA USA. Vera was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing and reading her Bible and devotionals. In addition to her parents, Vera was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Hunt, her daughter-in-law, Staci Hunt, and by her 4 brothers.

Survivors include Son: Kenneth B. Hunt of White Lake, NC; Daughter: Sharon (Johnny) Davis of Chesterfield, SC; Also 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church “Parking Lot Fund” 3154 Hwy 102, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Sandra Dell Little Mullen

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sandra Dell Little Mullen, 76, of Raleigh passed on Saturday, June 25, 2016.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market Street, Cheraw, SC with visitation at 1 PM in the parlor followed by the funeral service at 2 PM in the sanctuary. A private committal service will be held at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Mullen was born on December 20, 1939 in Bennettsville, SC to the late George “Pete” Thomas Little and Mason Ingram Little. She was a graduate of Cheraw High School where she was the head drum majorette and participated in many extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society and the Speech and Debate Club where she won state championship in debating. Sandra earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Winthrop College and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught high school home economics and business in her earlier years. She was a loving mother and grandmother who had a zest for life. She loved cooking, entertaining, and spending time with her family. Her loved ones will miss her spunkiness and spirit for fun and her grandchildren will miss their “Grandma San San”. She lived life with laughter, love and courage.

Survivors include her sister Dr. Delilah Little (William) Turpin of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Lynn Mullen (Randy) Stephenson of Pittsboro, NC; son Michael David Mullen of Surprise, AZ; grandchildren Nathan and Marissa Stephenson; a nephew Dr. George Bradley (Kathleen) Turpin, and great-nephews Joshua and Isaac Turpin of Austin, TX.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the charity of your choice.

Vanessa “Nessa” Quick

BENNETTSVILLE - Vanessa “Nessa” Quick, 58, died Monday, June 20, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of Clyde J. McCauley Jr, and the late Clara Calise. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and taking care of animals.

She is survived by her husband Evander Dean Quick, Sr., of the home, sons, Richard Quick, of Bennettsville, SC, Evander Quick, Jr., of Bennettsville, SC, and Joey Quick, of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Catina Barry, of Bennettsville, SC, her step-father, Richard Harlow, of Orange Park, FL, brothers, John Goulart, of Corbin, KY, and Jimmy McCauley, of Stark, FL, sisters, Deborah Goulart, of Orange Park, FL, Maryellen McCauley, of Orange Park, FL, and Patricia McCauley, of Vineland, NJ and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother listed above.

The family received friends, Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Wallace, SC.

A funeral service was held 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2016 at White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Wallace, SC.

James (Jim) Huntley Watson

GRAYSON, Ga. – James (Jim) Huntley Watson, age 68, of Grayson, GA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 20, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving family at Peachtree Christian Hospice, Duluth, GA.

He was born to Mayrow Walter and Rebecca Huntley Watson on July 30, 1947 and lived with his family in Mt. Croghan, SC. He graduated Valedictorian from Pageland High School, Pageland, SC in 1965. Jim received his BA from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC in 1969. While at Wake Forest, he was a member of the ROTC program and subsequently received a commission as First Lieutenant in the US Army upon graduation. His military service then led him to an assignment in Honolulu, Hawaii for 2 years. His decision to leave the military was a difficult one as he enjoyed his work and life in the military. Upon leaving the military, he entered Vanderbilt University School of Law in Nashville, TN receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1975. After earning his law degree, Jim’s love of Hawaii carried him back to Honolulu where he founded, with his friend and partner, Jim Wagner, Wagner and Watson, PA. He remained in Hawaii for 23 years during which time he started his family with his wife of 26 years, Kathy Franklin Watson. He enjoyed playing soccer, sailboat racing, hiking and many other outdoor activities. His life-long love of volunteering continued with his involvement in “Christmas in April” where his skills in carpentry helped to build homes for the needy. In 1998, Jim and his family relocated to the Atlanta, GA area where he worked with Holland and Knight, PA specializing in Real Estate Law.

Jim loved to write. He was working on a compilation of Southern stories with a Christian message at the time of his death. He enjoyed bluegrass and old-time Christian music and played the guitar, piano and banjo.

Jim was a dedicated member of Grayson United Methodist Church, Grayson, GA, and especially enjoyed the fellowship of his “Empty Nesters” Sunday school class.

He is survived by his fiancée Linda Belcher Bender of Grayson, GA, his beloved children Johnathan Paul Watson of Atlanta, GA, Caroline Rebecca Watson of Atlanta, GA, his sister Debra Watson Taylor and her husband James of Mt. Croghan, SC. Jim was predeceased by his older brother Larry Andrew Watson of Los Angeles, CA and his parents Mayrow Walter and Margaret Rebecca (Huntley) Watson.

Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service on Wednesday June 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Grayson United Methodist Church, 555 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017. The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon prior to the service. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, Covington, GA 30014.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grayson United Methodist Church, 555 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017 designated to the “Handy Hands”, one of Jim’s favorite mission programs.

James Kevin “Jimmy” Williams

CHERAW - James Kevin “Jimmy” Williams, 33, died Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in Cheraw, SC, he was a son of James David Williams and the late Jackie Scott Anderson. He graduated from Cheraw High School, Class of 2000, and was an Army National Guard veteran, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He enjoyed fishing, golf, art, drawing, and being with his many friends.

He is survived by his father, James David Williams (Sarah Francine), of Winter Haven, FL, sons, Conner Williams, of Davenport, FL, and Johnathan Hodges, of Hartsville, SC, a brother, Keith Williams, of Charlotte, NC, his step-father, Keith Anderson of Cheraw, SC, maternal grandparents, Jack and Margaret Scott, of Wallace, a nephew, Taylor Williams, and a niece, Aliyah Williams.

He was preceded in death by his mother listed above, and paternal grandparents David and Sarah Williams.

The family received friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home.

Lenwood Jerome Blakeney

Mr. Lenwood Jerome Blakeney was born on July 25, 1956 to the late Tressie Leola Statin and Curtis Blakeny and the late Effie Mae Funderburk and Wallace Funderburk. After a long struggle, God called him home and into eternal rest on Thursday, May 26, 2016.

He graduated from Shannon High School in Jefferson, South Carolina. He was employed with Monroe Metal many years ago.

He was preceded in death by a sister Yvonne Blakeney; two nephews: Lamont Blakeney and Kevin Blakeney and a niece Danielle Miller.

He leaves to cherish loving memories his loving wife of eight years Mrs. Pegiene Yvonne Smith Blakeney; four daughters: Dezzie Clyburn, Danielle Smith, Antonette Blount and Omega Clyburn; one son Brandon Smith; grandchildren Khyrei, Madison, Caleb, Tatyana and Jayaya; siblings: Judia Miller, Jimmy Blakeney, James Funderburk, Shirley Jackson and Robert Mungo; nieces: Carol Blakeney, Charlene Miller, Latoya Welch, Letina McManus and a host of nieces and nephews and many more.

Donnie Edwards Harris

CHERAW – “Senator” Donnie E. Harris was born in Cheraw on the great date of 10-21-59 to the late Frances Elizabeth Harris. Donnie received his education from Chesterfield County public schools and quickly started his career as an auto mechanic at Bailey’s Garage on Front Street.

“Curly, ” as he was affectionately known by his friends and family, attended Pee Dee Union Baptist Church. He later moved to Orlando, Fla. After 22 years of enjoying the Florida sun, he returned to Cheraw where he rejoined Pee Dee Union Baptist Church and gave his life to Christ.

On Saturday, May 21, God dispatched his angels to transition Donnie from life to life everlasting. Silently and quickly he went home to be with the Lord.

Preceding him in death was his eldest sister, Shirley A. Little.

He leaves to cherish his memories brothers Jimmie Harris (Dorothy) and Ronnie Harris (Annette); and sisters Carolyn Gary, Leatha M. York, Willie Mae Burden (Gregory) Sue Harris, Janet Tillman and Sharon Thomas. Even though he had no kids, he was a father to all of his nephews and nieces. He will also be remembered by his special friends, Angela and Michael McCaskill.

Neil Sellers Hinson

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Mr. Neil Sellers Hinson, age 46, formerly of Chesterfield, SC, died Monday, June 13, 2016.

He was born July 2, 1969, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of Margie Sellers Hinson Hood and the late Ronnie Neil Hinson. Neil was a 1987 graduate of Chesterfield High School and was a former employee of INA USA. He enjoyed fishing and working on the computer, and loved sports, especially football. Neil was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan, and had a deep love for all animals, especially cats, having had as many as 8 at one time. He was also a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran, with the 82nd Airborne Division. Neil was a true people person, and had the gift of being able to talk with anyone.

Neil is survived by his wife, Anna Quick Hinson; his mother and stepfather, Margie and Wayne Hood of Chesterfield, SC.; his stepson, Rosell Quick of Chesterfield, SC; brother, Mike (Fern) Hinson of Chesterfield, SC, stepbrother, Chad (Dawn) Hood of Summerville, SC, and his grandmother, Julia Rae Griffin of Chesterfield, SC. Neil is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 24, 2016 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with Inurnment to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family received family and friends, Friday, June 24, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Shiloh United Methodist Church “Parking Lot Fund” 3154 Hwy 102, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Penny Wallace Parker

CHERAW - Ms. Penny Wallace Parker, age 57, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

A graveside service was held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, June 17, 2015 in Brock’s Mill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Ms. Parker was born March 24, 1959, in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of Margie Parker Wallace and the late Willie Wallace. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and was a homemaker. Penny enjoyed talking on the phone, crossword puzzles, and watching T.V.

Survivors include Mother: Margie Wallace of Cheraw, SC; 2 Brothers: Walter “Frankie” Wallace and William (Sharon) Wallace both of Cheraw, SC; and 3 Nieces: Donna, Cory, and Brianna Wallace.

Janet Lee Brock Rivers

CHERAW - Janet Lee Brock Rivers, 62, died Thursday, June 9, 2016. Born in Chesterfield, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Allen Brock, Sr. and Mary Ruth Threadgill Brock. She had been a member of Brock’s Mill Baptist Church and Westfield Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and was a cat lover.

She is survived by her brother, Henry Allen Brock, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Trudy Stamey of Hartsville, SC, and Ann Morris of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Aaron (Shareena) Roscoe, Cody (Rylee) Melton, and Nicholas (Lacey) Melton, and great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Roscoe, Tanner Melton, and Lillie Rae Melton.

She is preceded in death by her parents listed above, and a daughter, Betsy Joanne Melton, and son-in-law, Ray Melton.

The family received friends 11:00 AM, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home.

A funeral service was held 12:00 Noon, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
