Esteban Orantia Rojo
ODESSA — Esteban Orantia Rojo, 78 years of age, entered eternal life on July 2, 2003, after a brief illness.
Esteban was born on December 26, 1924, in Alpine, Texas. He served as a veteran in the Army in WWII. He took part in the invasion on Normandy, France. For injuries suffered in the line of duty, he received the Purple Heart, for service to his country, Esteban received the Bronze Star, Medal of Good Conduct and an Honorable Discharge.
Esteban came to Odessa in 1948. Here, he met Felicita Diaz and they were married on April 30, 1966. That union lasted until her death September 29, 2000. In his lifetime, Esteban worked for the City of Odessa’s Sanitation Department, several trucking companies, and for the ECISD. Custodial Department until his retirement. He continued to work for the Southside Senior Center, the American Red Cross, the United Way and for Harmony Home.
Esteban leaves behind a son, Steven Rojo and his wife, Leticia, of Odessa. He leaves his beloved grandchildren, Socorro Ashely Rojo, Stevan Andrew Rojo and Joseph Paul Rojo all of Odessa; also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday July 3, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Ignacio Cisneros leading the rosary. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Gilbert Rodriguez and Deacon Ignacio Cisneros officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Jesus Lopez, Alonzo Salgado, Javier Salgado, Jaime Salgado, Marion Salgado Jr. and Bobby Valencia.
A special thank you to all family and friends for their love, prayers, and support during this time. A special thank you to Dr. Ghanta, Dr. Kolluru, and MCH ICU staff.

James Basil Hooper Sr.
ODESSA — James went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the age of 66. He came into this world May 22, 1937, in Humphreys County, Tenn. His greatest accomplishment was being a father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janie and Leon Hooper.
He was survived by one brother, Robert Hooper of Tennessee; four children, Allen Owensby, Juanita Russell, James Hooper Jr. and Robert Hooper, all of Odessa; five granddaughters, Crystal Owensby, Tasha Russell, Samantha Russell, Anjie Smiley and Shelby Russell; and one great-granddaughter, Stormy Bunger, all of Odessa.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Interment will be held in Humphreys County, Tenn., Saturday, July 5, 2003.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Beverly Jean Brewster
ODESSA — Beverly Jean Brewster of Odessa passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was 63.
Beverly was born April 19, 1940, in Brownwood, Texas, to A. E. “Ben” and B. Ernestine Brewster. Her family moved to Odessa in 1952. That same year, Beverly became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Beverly was a very intelligent woman, holding numerous degrees. Among her accomplishments, she held a B.A. in English, a Bachelor’s of Music and a Master’s of Music degree, all earned through the University of Texas in Austin. Beverly had a lifelong love of music and literature.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery with Rev Cheryl Homsher officiating
Beverly is preceded in death by her father A.E. “Ben” Brewster in June 2003.
Survivors include her mother, B. Ernestine Brewster of Odessa; brothers, Larry “Tom” Brewster and wife, Kay, of Sapulpa, Okla., Dennis Brewster and wife, Sally, of Abilene and Scott Brewster and wife, Mary, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; nieces and nephews, Sheila Brewster Armour and her husband, Donald, Sonya Brewster, Rhett Brewster and his wife, Danielle, Devin Brewster, Heidi Brewster Brantingham and her husband, Heath, and Heather Brewster; great-nieces and nephews, Zachary Zaloudek and Nathan Zaloudek, Eleah Brewster and Analeese Brewster.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Hospice House of Odessa.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Patricia Ann Cline Keese
MONAHANS — Services for Patricia Ann Cline Keese, 56, of Monahans, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Todd Rush Chapel of Family Funeral Services in Monahans. She died Oct. 5, 2003, at her residence.
Patricia Ann Cline Keese was born to Robert Doyle Cline and Myrtle Louise Miller Cline on June 10, 1947, in Edinburg, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her brother, Robert Doyle Cline Jr.
Pat is survived by her husband, Jerry R. Keese; and two children, Tammy Louise Rick and husband, Charles, and son, Jerry R. Keese Jr.; and her three angels, her grandchildren, Sarah, Alison and C.J.
Survivors also include her mother, Myrtle Louise Dukes; three sisters, Kathleen Joyce Henson, Glenda Faye Hunt and husband, Mike, and Debra Jeanne Babcock and husband, David. Also, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Pat was a member of the Monahans Christian Church. She spent years of volunteer service helping care for relatives and friends at the Monahans Care Center.
Pat was a devoted wife and mother. She and Jerry would have celebrated their 33rd anniversary on Oct. 11.
Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/ Jackie Harkey.

Horace E. Simpson
ODESSA — Horace E. Simpson, “Paw Paw” of Many, La., went to be with his loving savior, Christ Jesus, many friends and family members, Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the age of 91 at Medical Center Hospital.
Services to celebrate his life and to mourn his passing will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7th, in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Clydell Chapman presiding, as he was a member of the Northside Baptist Church.
Horace was a retired tool-pusher who relocated to Odessa in 1990 after a revered career working with Southern Six, Delta, Gallagher and other large drilling companies with many assignments offshore. He was a wonderful family man and ministered to the fellowship of Trinity Baptist Church in Ft. Jessup, La. as an active Deacon in that community. His hobbies were fishing and hunting and the pleasure he shared with friends and family.
He was born to Hugh and Amanda Simpson, December 4, 1911, and is also preceded in death by his wife, Dillye Mae, nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Kitty and her husband, Sonny Reeves, of Odessa, Pat and husband, Fred Markgraf, of Arlington, Texas; sisters, Pinkye Mitchell and Lurline Adams; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as one great-great-grandchild.
We all loved and will greatly miss this wonderful man.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, and interment will follow the services at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Edna Brown
MOBERLY, Mo. — Edna Brown, 90, of Moberly died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.
Edna was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Renick, Mo., to the late Guy and Laura McGinnis Lewellen. She married James H. “Brownie” Brown Dec. 23, 1931, in Moberly. He preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church in Moberly, Mo.
Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Sharon Brown of Odessa, Texas; grandson, Scott Brown, Odessa, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Stephanie Brown; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas M. and Lizabeth Lewellen; nephew Thomas D. Lewellen of Peoria, Ill.; other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cater Funeral Home Chapel in Moberly, Mo. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Moberly. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cater Funeral Home in Moberly.

Doris Swindell
ODESSA — Doris Swindell, 82, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Regency Hospital in Odessa. She was born Oct. 5, 1920, to Cecil and Lettie Ragsdale in Dillard, Carter County, Okla.
She married William David Swindell on Oct. 22, 1937, in Gilmore, Texas, and moved to Odessa in 1944 from Levelland. She was a homemaker and a member of Westside Christian Church.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Rev. Paul Thompson of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Her husband, Dave Swindell; sister, Mildred Bragg; brother, Sonny Stearns; and granddaughter, Kelli Hill, all preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, James David Swindell and wife, Sue, and William Donald Swindell and wife, Teresa; daughter, Jerry Lee Cox, all of Odessa; sister, Ruby Newman of Lubbock; 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was known as “Granny” to many many other children.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Shirley Lee Wilson
ODESSA — Shirley Lee Wilson passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Regency Hospital in Odessa, following a brief battle with ovarian cancer. She was born February 5, 1954, to Gareth and Joy Pollard.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Wilson; and son, Troy Wilson of Odessa; daughter, Emily Richards of Dallas; parents, Gareth and Joy Pollard of Odessa; brother, Gareth Pollard Jr. of Austin; and twin sister, Patricia Mackey of Odessa.
Saturday night, she passed peacefully in the presence of her loved ones and friends. Two of the most important aspects of Shirley’s life were her family and her work. For the past 14 years she was assistant to Dr. Kris Howard; she loved her work and enjoyed the friendship and affections of the staff and clients.
The family is grateful for the many prayers and support from numerous friends expressed during these last weeks. Special thanks to Shirley’s friend Laura Granbery for being there till the end.
Memorial services to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, 1420 E. 42nd, with Rev. Scott Sprouse officiating.

Bobbie Gayle Thurman
ODESSA — Bobbie Gayle Thurman, 48, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, following an automobile accident. He was born on April 12, 1955, in Biloxi, Miss. He was employed in the oilfield.
He is survived by his sons, Nathan Don Thurman of Sequin and Lucas Thurman of Robert Lee; daughters, Stephanie Wyatt Thurman of Dallas and Amanda Thurman of Robert Lee; parents, John and Virginia Self of Odessa; grandmother, Margaret Wyatt Speckles of Odessa.
Visitation will begin today at Odessa Funeral Home. Graveside services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Rose Hill cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.

Pam “Sissy” Bomar
ODESSA — Pam “Sissy” Bomar, 50, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born to Bill and Barbara Henson in Denver, Colo. on March 31,1953. She later married Shayne Bomar on Nov. 7, 1994 in Odessa.
She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Odessa.
She is survived by her husband, Shayne Bomar of Odessa; six sons, Steven Payne and wife Solana of Capitan N.M., Mark Chandler and wife, Kim, Bo Chandler of Odessa, Glen Parker of Oklahoma City, Okla., Steven Bomar and Mikel Bomar of Odessa; two daughters, Christina Brown and husband Jimmy of Carlsbad, N.M. and Brenda Bomar of Midland; mother, Bobbie Hetue of Odessa; two brothers Billy Henson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Steve Page; and four sisters, Terri Banta of Odessa, Tracy Dunford and husband Doug of Odessa, Shannon Palmer and husband Russell of Ruidoso, N.M. and Jeannie Healey of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two on the way; 14 nieces and nephews and faithful and loving friends DeeDee and Belinda and numerous friends.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 2 p.m.
