ODESSA -- Dan Kermit French, 81, of Odessa, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at his residence.

Services are pending with Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. Gene Sumruld

Gene Edward Sumruld

ODESSA -- Gene Edward Sumruld, 55, of Odessa, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Crane.

Services are pending with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Elbert Archer

FORT STOCKTON -- Elbert H. Archer, 70, of Fort Stockton, a retired test engineer at Firestone's test track, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Miles officiating. Burial will be at East Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Corsicana and moved to Fort Stockton in 1937 from Corsicana. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was Presbyterian.

Survivors: Wife, Darlene Archer of Fort Stockton; sons, Ricky Archer of Houston and Randy Archer of Fort Stockton; sister, June Archer of Corsicana; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mildred Chandler

CRANE -- Mildred Chandler, 74, of Crane, a retired judge, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Richard W. Box Funeral Home with the Rev. Ric Allen officiating. Burial will be at Crane County cemetery. Arrangements by Richard W. Box Funeral Homes.

She was born in London, Texas. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Son, Greg Earl of Midland; mother, Elsie Pearl of Crane; sisters, Nell Brookshire of Odessa, Melva Campbell of Fort Worth, Sandy Allred of Farmington, N.M.; brothers, Carlton "Corky" Pearl of Slidell, La., Michael Pearl of Jackson, Miss.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Luella Cox

PARIS, Texas -- Luella Lottie Cox, 78, of Powderly, a retired associate of Gray's Cafe, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Arthur City Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilbur Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Forest Chapel cemetery. Arrangements by Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home.

She was born in Gorman. She was Baptist.

Survivors: Sons, James F. Cox Jr. of Krum and Charles W. Cox of Powderly; sister, Louise Smith of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Freeman

CLYDE -- John Smith Freeman, 107, of Clyde, a retired rancher, died Wednesday June 24, 1998, at an Abliene Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home with John Freeman, Bill Freeman and Doug Barron officiating. Burial will be in Clyde cemetery. Arrangements by Bailey Funeral Home.

He was born in Troy, Ala.

Survivors: Daughters, Johnnie Irene Hammett of San Saba and Mary Lou Hudnall of Odessa; son, William B. "Billie" Freeman of Clyde; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Odom

KERMIT -- Evelyn Odom, 72, of Kermit, a retired bookkeeper, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Houston officiating. Burial will be at Kermit cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc.

She was born in Colorado City and was a 62-year resident of Kermit. She was Baptist.

Survivors: Husband, Cecil Odom of Kermit; sons, Randy Odom of Lakin and Ricky Odom of Midland; daughters, Sherrilyn Blase of San Angelo and Vicky Kvasnicka of Gilbert, Ariz.; step-mother, Lee Lipham of Kermit; brothers, James E. Lipham and Bill Lipham, both of Odessa, and Ronnie Lipham of Plano; sister, Wanda Cooper of Kermit; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors: Wife, Fay French of Odessa; sons, Robert French of Santa Fe, N.M., and Donny French of Granbury; daughters, Melva Smith and Carolyn Fridag, both of Granbury; step-daughter, Lucille McMurray of Odessa; brothers, Roy French of Odessa, Daryl French and Volton French, both of Granbury; sister, Helen Wilson of Roswell, N.M.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Minnie Williams

ODESSA -- Minnie Lee Williams, 82, of Odessa died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at New Horizons Nursing Center.

SEMINOLE -- Rhonda Gail Berry, 38, of Hobbs, N.M., a homemaker, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Yoakum County Hospital in Denver City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Westside Church of Christ with James T. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Gaines County cemetery. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home.

She was born in Muleshoe, and moved to Hobbs, N.M., in 1993 after moving from Seminole. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Mother, Helen Berry of Seminole; son, Gary Don Berry of Hobbs, N.M.; brothers, Gene Berry and Steven Berry, both of Seminole; sisters, Beverly Combs of Artesia, N.M., Debra Cottrell of Seminole, and Sherry Moore of Azel.

Pete Briones

ODESSA -- Pete Briones, 58, of Odessa died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Frey officiating. Burial will be at Lamesa Memorial Park in Lamesa. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.

He was born in San Antonio.

Survivors: Wife, Lusinda Briones of Odessa; sons, Ben Briones of Odessa, Eric Briones of San Diego; brothers, Valente Briones of Dallas and Benny Briones of Midland; sister, Beatrice Briones of Lamesa; and one grandchild.

ODESSA -- Lawrence Kidwell, 76, of Odessa, a retired receiving clerk in the retail grocery business, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve King officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Chetopa, Kan., and moved to Odessa in 1947 from Breckenridge. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors: Wife, Billie Kidwell of Odessa; son, Lawrence Edwin Kidmell Jr. of Germany; daughters, Roxie Kidwell of Odessa, Connie Davis of Monahans; brother, Robert Kidwell of Oklahoma; sister, Florence Edna Baker of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

ODESSA -- Artrue "Artie" Norris, 72, of Dallas, a retired bookkeeper, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Silver Leaves Nursing Home in Garland.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Eddie Parrish officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Floydada and moved to Odessa from Goldsmith. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Sons, David Norris of Lagrange and Raymond Norris of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters, Nancy Norris of Odessa, Sherry Hudman of Dallas; brothers, Pete Ratliff of Fort Sumner, N.M., Joe Ratliff of Albuquerque, N.M., Bill Ratliff of Clovis, N.M.; sister, Leta Partain of Garland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
